Coronavirus Update May 19, 2021
The CDC and Michigan Department of Health and Human Services recently released guidance on the ability of fully vaccinated people to resume pre-pandemic activities without wearing a mask or physically distancing, except where required by federal, state, local, tribal, or territorial laws, rules, and regulations, including local business and workplace guidance. The CDC later clarified that schools should continue to use masks and other mitigation strategies, as most students cannot yet be vaccinated against COVID-19. The AOD and our local Health Departments recommend that schools continue to use the COVID-19 prevention strategies that have been in place, including mandating masks and implementing social distancing where possible, for the remainder of the 2020-2021 academic year. A new set of AOD guidelines will be released before the 2021-22 school year.
